Passionate about beautiful materials, crafting with her hands and challenging her mind with creative ideas. Engaging her senses with textures and relaxing with the simplicity of old techniques and the elegance of a single weft flying across the loom.
Bethany Athill is a textile designer – maker based in the beautiful city of Winchester, Hampshire where she trained and specialised in the traditional skill of hand weaving.
With her simple vintage-inspired styling, she creates unique hand woven accessories for both men and women.
Each product is a work of art, individually and lovingly handmade as part of a limited range or one of a kind. The fusion of yarns, the carefully selected woven designs and vibrancy of colours and dyes used are unique in every design.
Bethany’s designs can be described as classic with a twist. She offers a diverse range of high quality, hand woven fabrics made with a varied mix of yarns, structures, colour palettes and textures, yet her designs are united by an elegant simplicity which runs throughout her work.
The hand weaving process allows Bethany to explore her love for controlling and constructing the texture and surface of the fabric by pushing the boundaries within the constraints of a loom. In her more experimental weaving, she works with the innate properties of fibres and yarns, both natural and manmade, combining different colours, woven structures and finishing processes – including steaming and felting – to produce interesting three dimensional forms and delicate textual fabrics.
Everything about Bethany’s designs simply overflows with character, individuality, and style.
